ALMOST 60 MILLION HECTARES OF FOREST REGROW

Forests are vitally important to the future of people and wildlife around the world. So we’re delighted to report on new research by WWF, as part of the Trillion Trees initiative, which reveals that an estimated 58.9 million hectares of natural forest have grown back since 2000. This is good news for the communities and wildlife who directly depend on forests. But also important for everyone else given its potential to capture and store roughly 5.9 gigatonnes of CO2 – a massive contribution to global climate efforts. But we can’t forget that our forests remain under huge pressure, with deforestation rising at an alarming pace due to activities such as agriculture or infrastructure development. WWF and other NGOs formed the Trillion Trees partnership four years ago to help halt deforestation and restore forests.
